NEW ‘WAR & PEACE’ ESSAY: MIXED PROGRESS ON BANNING ‘THE BIG ONE’

In his new ‘War & Peace’ column for The Cape Breton Spectator, Peace Quest Cape Breton’s Campaign Coordinator Sean Howard commemorates Hiroshima and Nagasaki Days (August 6 & 9) and reviews the historic first meeting of members of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons – the ‘Ban Treaty’ – in Vienna in June. Howard also looks to New York City for examples of how to respond intelligently to the nuclear threat – by protest, divestment, and embracing the Ban – and how to indulge in denial – by peddling the Big Lie that defence and recovery is possible when ‘the Big One’ falls.
